Speaker: Chris Orban, OSU How I do Computer Programming in a Physics Class Although python is a popular way to integrate computer programming in physics classes, about a decade ago I wanted something that worked better for making 2D games with simple physics. That led me to a JavaScript framework called p5.js and in 2017 another professor and I launched the STEMcoding YouTube channel (STEMcoding Youtube Channel). But getting students to code in physics is only part of the struggle. You also have to grade it! The last few years I have been developing http://stemcoding.herokuapp.com which teachers are using to manage student code submissions and feedback. Speaker: Brian Rohrig, Fun with Projectile Motion While running the Columbus Marathon one year, I wondered why I kept having so much trouble getting my crumpled-up cups to land into the giant trash cans as I ran by. Another time, while on a ferry ride, my son asked: “If I kick a soccer ball straight up, will it land in the water?” I devised some easy classroom activities to answer these questions, and others. Come explore the wonders of two-dimensional motion with three easy yet effective activities you can perform in your classroom that involve basically no cost or set-up. |
