Fall 2014 Meeting - Seven Hills School, Saturday October 11, 2014
5400 Red Bank Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45227
Fall Meeting at Seven Hills School in Cincinnatti
October 11, 2014
Host - Lenore Horner
Guest speaker - Dwain Desbien
Revitalizing Courses with Alternative Techniques in Problem Solving
How do we help our students develop a deeper understanding of scientific models in introductory physics? This workshop will introduce participants to several alternative techniques to solving physics problems for scenarios involving 1-D and 2-D motion, momentum, and energy topics. Using existing representational tools in new ways, the alternative problem solving methods will be presented as a means of enhancing student understanding of scientific models. One such tool specifically targets student abilities in constructing free body diagrams. Participants will be provided time to practice using the new tools, as well as discuss how the new tools could be used in their classrooms.
Location - Seven Hills Upper School
The school address is 5400 Red Bank Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45227. Please come in at the door marked with the red pin. The map doesn't show it, but there is a small parking lot at this end of the school as well as parking around the drive that borders the tennis courts. If we actually manage to fill up all of that parking, the lot directly across the street is also available. We'll be meeting in the physics classroom and the red pin marks to door to that room - the closest one to the street.
This page will be updated when more information becomes available. If you have any questions please e-mail the webmaster, Kevin McChesney
Tap and bottled water will be available the entire day.
